| Why Ain't I Dead ? part 1 submitted 2009.10.22 01:08 PM by Fallen viewed 386 times | |||||
| When looking back on my life it seems that there have been an awful lot of near death experiences. I'm sure many of us have a close call or two, but after making my list, I'm at about seven times. That seems a lot to me. Now before I start let me preface this, I am not a secret agent, and I am not Bruce Willis's character from "Unbreakable". Most importantly, this is not to draw attention to any cosmic entities, agents of Fate or Lady Death herself. I have not "cheated" death so I don't expect any of you to come calling to reset the balance of the universe. Are we clear? Good. Let's go back to when I was a little kid; no I was not almost eaten by a dinosaur, just keep reading. I am not sure how old exactly but I was younger than five and could not yet walk. Pre-toddler two or three I would guess. Mom was a clean freak, she would be in a continuous state of dusting and mopping and vacuuming. And the vac plays a key part in this little story. So to keep little me out of trouble I would go in my walker while mom did her housework. For those of you without kids a walker is the thing in the picture below, you put the kid in and they kick their little legs and scoot along. The thing is nine times out of ten the kid will scoot backwards. So there I was scooting about doing baby things, while mom vacuumed the upstairs bedrooms. I think you see where this is heading. I remember being at the top of the stairs and mom trying to get to me so she decides to call me to her. This would be a good idea except, I was too little to speak, and mommy is talking to me. This translates in a baby brain as excited and when babies get excited they kick, and when you kick in a walker you go where again? Kids are amazing because they don't know any better. They don't fear or tense up, as an adult the fall would have killed me or broke something at the least. I don't remember the falling I only remember hitting the wall at the bottom landing of the stairs. And crying more a WTF just happened cry as I was totally unharmed no scrape, no bruise, nothing. And that boys and girls is my first brush with mortality. I would like to thank mom for not having the sense to block the stairs off but hey, she learned her lesson on attentive parenting. Oh wait??well, you'll see. Next post: baby Fallen goes swimming in the grown up pool. | |||||
