| Pudgy fingers like a stretched out starfish Reach up to my face, tug at my hair Pulling me closer to you Breath like sour milk and ripened peach Speaking in giggles and gurgles A thousand kisses upon your chest Taste like bitter almonds and soap. Tenderly I scoop you into my arms Protective, instinctive And rest your head on my shoulder Whispering rhymes and songs My mother would sing to me as a child Stroking silken hair on your tiny head Full of thoughts of nothing Smaller than the palm of my hand. Soothing melodies, swaying To music only I can hear A box from long ago with twirling ballerina. Folds of the softest flesh Tiny toes a row of pink peas On unused fragile feet Eyes droop as you fight sleep Your hands grip my back tightly Primative grasp as old as time Dwarfed in a land of giants Outsized by rattle and bear You're not alone or burden My life is yours to share. | |||||
