Usually you'll find me at my computer writing. I've hammered out a lot of words over the last few years, too many short stories and a few novels, as well. My drive to create is sometimes overwhelming, and occasionally I drift into other realms of media. When I'm not writing, you can most often find be working on some type of visual art. As a failed Fine Arts major, I still dabble in various fields. I'll mess with everything from the design elements of my book covers to large graphic-pop paintings. I'm currently working on a large painting that employes the use of wood stain and I just tracked down an old sketch book, too. Sometimes, however, I creep into the world of audio experimentation. Now, understand; For as much as I love music and use in it prominently in my other creative projects, I can't play a single instrument and my singing voice makes the baby jesus cry. Regardless, I think about music quite a bit and I believe I understand it to an extent, too. I simply just can't perform it in the traditional ways. Thank my dear fluffy lord Satan for computers, huh? Thanks to various programs, I've learned how to compose tracks and edit them. I've remixed the tunes by others, used samples, loops and constructed beats. I've come to understand temp and key. It took a while, but I'm starting to figure more things out. When I work with others, remixing and producing their tracks, I use the term The Antithesis Project. I've played with Hip-Hop, Metal, Folk and Punk. Soon, I'll be looking to branch out a bit and get some of these other performers to give me sample snippets of their vocal lines, guitar riffs and percussion loops. I'm going to attempt to build new songs. When I work on my own, it's under the title of ENOCHIAN. Pronounced (E - nOk - KEY - an), it's a term rich with mystical connections. Starting in the winter of 2006, I began using various programs to create music. The first tracks were amateur at best, incredibly awkward techno tunes. None the less, I compiled a bunch of them and put them together in a digital album I called "The Pangea Engine." Once I learned how to use effects and samples better, the next winter I began work on a follow up collection called "Among The Ruins Of Men." It was a conceptual album, all centered around Judeo-Christian Mythology. Out of the 12 tracks, about half featured samples including Gregorian Chants, some Bluegrass, Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah, and The Blind Boys Of Alabama's version of Amazing Grace. In the spring of 2008, I jumped back into ENOCHIAN and made another 10 songs. This time, centered around a more global feel, I based each track off a fabled or lost city, the tune flavored for each region. With tracks titled like Atlantis, Babylon and Alexandria, I named the album "The Majestic Loss." I was especially pleased with this album and had limited amount pressed for family and friends. Now as the winter of 2009 draws near, I've return to ENOCHIAN. After much thought, I've shrugged off past comparisons and influences to try a new direction. Trying to achieve something called Post-Tronic, I've studied the concepts of musical texturing and layering techniques. I've attempting to create techno songs that don't sound like techno. With the new 10 tracks, the length varies from 3 minutes to almost 8. I named the songs based off the irregular loops I used, eventually creating the album "Yesterday Bled Us A Golden Lie" I've considered what song to put up here. I think I'm going to go with the track On Regret & Brutality. I also considered both For Those Before The Slumber and Through Frozen Earth. If you actually like this song, those two and more can be found at http://www.mp3.com/artist/enochian as well as on MySpace Music. On Regret & Brutality is about 6 & 1/2 minutes long, a tunes that build slowly and subtly. As stated, it was named after the two of the many loops used. I would appreciate any feedback. | |||||
