Do you hear the whispers? Those tongues that would taste you as they flicker in unison Addressing every little flaw, every little moment. And I wonder at your skin, wonder At the times that may have been. So many choices set before me, all of them burning, all of them? (hush) I must gather my strength to decide If I want to go down in those delicate, beautiful flames or Stand silent in these barren plains. You cut me. You shave off slivers of my dreams, night after night, Leaving me with a cacophony of sighs Painted in vibrant hues of failure and twilight. I wonder if you move like me? Swollen with pride and stumbling. But I would raise you on to the heavens above, Near divine with your make-shift wings; You would sail away, I believe You would make us sing. "And let them eat war," I would declare, For no one would answer. No one but me, Here with these fires, here with these questioning stares. So I?ll hand over the flesh and fall to the depths Forget the angels in their home in the stars Allow these mouths a feast of some glory While down here, I?ll love you from afar? | |||||
